| DEVOTIONAL MUSIC, CELESTIAL MUSIC | |
| Blissful sounds permeate Guru Ram Das Ashram, our place of reverence in Los Angeles, where we bow our heads at the Lotus feet of the Guru; just like our beloved Teacher, the Siri Singh Sahib Ji- Yogi Bhajan, did every day for so many years! Devotion al hymns are uttered by a Jatha (musicians) and different instruments are played. Bhakti (devotion) moves from the hearts of all of us, filling every cell of our beings with chardikala (bliss). The power of music to heal and uplift is well recorded in many ancient spiritual paths and religions. The seers of India understood this power to transform, and it was common for mantra and scriptures to be sung, as a way to increase their meditative power. |

| MANTRA and KIRTAN | |
| Mantra is a series of sounds which have been designed to elevate or modify consciousness through their meaning and rhythmical repetition. As the Siri Singh Sahib Ji states: "Mantra is a vibration which brings all the power of the sun, the infinite power of Creativity to our mind. It has the power to bring us to God...The Light created the sound, sound created the Universe." | Kirtan is a way of singing divine poetry, composed by saints while in a state of union with God. While we repeat the same words uttered by them, with devotion, we can experience the same state of consciousness they were vibrating. For the Sikhs, the Kirtan we play are Guru Bani, Shabad Guru. |
